General Motors (GM) is suing Hyundai Motor America for poaching an executive specifically to acquire the American carmaker’s technical secrets related self-driving cars. GM claims that Brian Latouf, who worked for GM for 26 years before becoming Hyundai’s chief safety officer, violated a non-compete clause by moving to Hyundai and with proprietary information about its “safety technology, advanced driver-assistance features, and autonomous vehicle development processes.” Given the similarity of Latouf’s position in Hyundai with his former job, GM claims that he will use his technical knowledge to give Hyundai a competitive edge over its American competitor.
