UNESCO headquarters in Paris has honored St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon, the first Korean to become a Catholic priest, announcing his recognition as a universal patron on Nov. 14. A memorial celebrating the bicentennial of St. Andrew’s birth is expected to be completed in May 2021 in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province. UNESCO’s recognition of St. Andrew will allow the official UNESCO logo to be used during next year’s memorial event. St. Andrew was tortured and executed for his beliefs in 1846 under the Joseon Dynasty. (provided by the city of Dangjin)
