Gyeonggi Province and Gangwon Province are moving quickly to have the DMZ registered as a UNESCO world heritage site. The two provincial governments have applied for the DMZ’s temporary registration as a world heritage site with the South Korean Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA). If the registration proceeds as plan, the CHA will then apply for registration with UNESCO, who will then appraise the cultural and historical value of the DMZ in its decision. The photo shows participants at international academic symposium for the DMZ’s registration as a world heritage site held on Dec. 12. (provided by the Gangwon Provincial Office)
